Marble is one of the angelfish varieties people look up by name. This page answers the questions owners actually type about marble, then points you to the sourced angelfish care guidance that applies to every variety.

Tall, graceful cichlids with real personality — and a taste for small tetras.

Quick answer: Marble is a variety of angelfish. Everything on this page is angelfish-level guidance — we do not invent variety-specific numbers.

The care below is angelfish-level guidance from our species hub, sourced to Merck Veterinary Manual — Exotic & Laboratory Animals: Aquarium Fish and RSPCA — Aquarium fish advice. It applies to Marble exactly as it applies to every other angelfish variety. We do not publish variety-specific temperament, lifespan or weight numbers that we cannot source.

Tank size, height and decor

For a small group, start at 200 liters (55 gal) with 60 cm height; for a pair, 115 liters (30 gal) can work. Height matters more than for typical fish — fins trail long. Fine-leaved tall plants (Vallisneria, Amazon swords), driftwood verticals and a gentle filter flow suit them; strong current stresses fish whose bodies are literally sails. Cover the top — they jump when spooked.

Water and temperature

24–28°C (75–82°F), pH roughly 6.0–7.5 as long as it is stable, soft-to-moderate hardness, and zero ammonia/nitrite with nitrate kept under ~20 ppm through weekly partial water changes. Wild-caught altums (P. altum) are a specialist's fish needing very soft, warm, acidic water — buy tank-raised scalare for a first angel. Stability beats perfection: swings cause stress disease faster than any single number.
