🐟 Coral Beauty — Guide & Varieties

IN PRODUCTION   Fish & aquatic · 1 varieties mapped

The compact purple-and-gold dwarf angel that's a step hardier than its cousins.

Coral Beauties (Centropyge bispinosa) are 3-4 inches (8-10 cm), deep blue-purple with orange-gold accents, and among the hardier dwarf angelfish for reef and fish-only tanks. They are bold, active grazers that do well once settled.

As with flame angels, they are 'reef-safe with caution' — some individuals nip corals or clam mantles. A mature tank with rockwork and algae suits them.

How long do Coral Beauties live?

Coral Beauties live 5 or more years with good marine care. Their relative hardiness helps, but stable water and diet still rule.

What do Coral Beauties eat?

They are omnivores grazing algae and needing spirulina, angel formulas and some meaty foods. The mistake is a single-food diet; offer greens and proteins to keep color and condition.

Tank size and water parameters

A 30-gallon (115 L) tank suits one. Target 72-82°F (22-28°C), pH 8.1-8.4, specific gravity 1.020-1.025, ammonia/nitrite zero, nitrate under ~20 ppm. Provide live rock for grazing and retreats.

Common mistakes with Coral Beauties

Key errors: assuming full reef-safety (some nip corals); too-small tank with no rock; two in a small tank; and unstable marine parameters.
