🐟 Glowlight Tetra — Guide & Varieties

IN PRODUCTION   Fish & aquatic · 1 varieties mapped

A thin line of copper light that shimmers across a calm planted tank.

Glowlight Tetras (Hemigrammus erythrozonus) are about 1.5 inches (4 cm) with a warm copper-gold stripe along the body and a small red patch near the tail. They are peaceful, schooling, and more tolerant of varied water than the delicate neon-types, making them a friendly step-up species.

They do best in a planted community with other gentle fish and a stable, mature aquarium. Like all small tetras, a real school and clean water are the foundation.

How long do Glowlight Tetras live?

Glowlights live roughly 4-5 years with stable water and a sensible diet. They are reasonably robust for a small tetra, rewarding consistent care.

What do Glowlight Tetras eat?

Feed fine flake, micro-pellets, and small frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia, in portions finished in two minutes. Overfeeding and a single-food diet are the usual avoidable mistakes.

Tank size and water parameters

A 10-15 gallon (38-57 L) tank works for a school of 8-10. Target 74-82°F (23-28°C), pH 5.8-7.5, soft to moderate water, zero ammonia and nitrite, nitrate under 20 ppm. Keep in groups of 6+; subdued light and plants make the stripe glow.

Common mistakes with Glowlight Tetras

Common errors: too small a group so they fade and hide; keeping them with fin-nippers or boisterous fish; and unstable water in a small tank where missed water changes spike toxins quickly.
