🐟 Julii Corydoras — Guide & Varieties

IN PRODUCTION   Fish & aquatic · 1 varieties mapped

The delicately spotted little cory that's frequently mislabeled at the store.

Julii Corydoras (Corydoras julii) are about 2 inches (5 cm) with fine dark spotting and a clear 'bracelet' mark behind the gill. In shops they are very often confused with the similar-looking leopard cory (C. trilineatus), so buyers should look for true broken spotting rather than reticulated lines.

They are peaceful, social bottom-dwellers that need a school, soft substrate, and stable water like their relatives.

Julii Corydoras

How long do Julii Corydoras live?

Julii Corydoras live 5 or more years with good care. Stable, mature water and a soft substrate support a long life.

What do Julii Corydoras eat?

Feed sinking pellets, wafers, and frozen/live foods like bloodworms and daphnia. The common error is assuming they live on leftovers; give them dedicated bottom food.

Tank size and water parameters

A 15-20 gallon (57-75 L) tank suits a group of 6. Target 72-79°F (22-26°C), pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderate water, zero ammonia and nitrite, nitrate under 20 ppm. Keep in groups of 6+ on smooth sand.

Common mistakes with Julii Corydoras

Usual errors: sharp substrate damaging barbels; scrap-only feeding; too small a group; and confusing them with leopard corys at purchase, which is harmless but worth knowing.
