🐔 Silver Pheasant — Guide & Varieties

IN PRODUCTION   Birds · 1 varieties mapped

The moonlit cousin of the golden: silver-white, long-tailed, and wonderfully shy.

Silver pheasants are large pheasants about 47-49 inches (120-125 cm) long including a long tail, weighing 2-3 lb (0.9-1.4 kg), living 5-8 years in captivity. They are kept as ornamental aviary birds for the male's striking silver-and-black plumage.

They are shy, flighty, and not handleable; they need a large, secure, planted aviary with cover. They suit experienced aviary keepers.

How long do Silver Pheasants live?

Silver pheasants commonly live 5-8 years in captivity with good care.

What do Silver Pheasants eat?

Feed a gamebird/pheasant pellet (16-18% protein) with greens, seeds, fruit, and insects; avoid avocado and chocolate. Offer grit and fresh water daily. During breeding add protein and calcium.

Silver Pheasant housing and daily life

Keep a pair or small group in a large planted aviary with dense cover, perches, and a sheltered roost, with several square meters per bird and flight room. They need dry, predator-proof housing and protection from foxes and hawks. A dust bath supports feather health.

Common mistakes with Silver Pheasants

Common errors are overstocking males (fighting), insufficient cover (stress and feather damage), and damp housing (parasites, respiratory disease). Nonstick-fume exposure and toxic foods are acute risks.
