How the estimate works
Adult dogs on a raw diet are commonly fed about 2–3% of body weight per day. Puppies in growth need more — roughly 4–10%, tapering as they mature. We use 2.5% for adults and 6% for puppies as midpoints.
Feeding percentages
| Stage | % of body weight/day |
|---|---|
| Adult | 2–3% |
| Puppy | 4–10% (age-dependent) |
Percentages reflect common raw-feeding practice referenced by AKC and PetMD. A raw diet must be nutritionally complete — consult your vet. Verified Oct 22, 2026.
