Pair the name with reward
Start in a small, safe space. Say the rabbit's name and the instant they look or step toward you, give a tiny piece of a favorite green or pellet. Repeat until they reliably turn at the sound. The cue must always predict something good — never call them for something they dislike.
Increase distance gradually
Once they respond across a room, call from another room, then from further with mild distraction. Keep sessions to a few minutes; rabbits lose interest in repetition. End on success and reward generously.
Why it matters
Recall lets you call a free-roam rabbit back to safety, into a pen, or onto a scale for a health check — without chasing, which stresses both of you.
Frequently asked questions
Can you train a rabbit to come when called?
Yes. Pair their name with a small treat every time, never call them for something unpleasant, and build distance slowly in short sessions.
What's the best reward for rabbit recall?
A tiny piece of a favorite leafy green or a pellet they love. The reward has to matter to that rabbit.
Why won't my bunny come when I call?
Probably the cue has been followed by something negative, or the reward isn't worth it. Reset by making the name always predict a treat they love.
